CUSC’s Mission

Welcome to the website of Carmarthenshire Unified Sports Committee. CUSC was formed to fight Carmarthenshire County Councils unmanageable pitch fees. CCC’s policy of providing maintenance of its parks and pitches at a zero cost to the authority will kill off grass roots sports in the county. Our aim is to stop this happening. Affordable Sport For All!

Letter to Welsh Government

Dear Deputy Minister,

My name is Kevin Francis and I am the Chairman of the Carmarthenshire Unified Sports Committee (CUSC). This committee was formed to fight against Carmarthenshire County Council’s (CCC) unworkable pitch and green fee increases.

It is CCC’s intention to reach a zero maintenance cost to the authority. We are working with CCC to help them achieve this aim but in the short term any unaffordable hire costs would be detrimental to sport in Carmarthenshire.

I write to you today to ask for a letter supporting our ideal of affordable sport for all. As you will be aware sport is important for all ages in combatting  many illnesses including obesity.

I look forward to your response to my request.

Yours in sport,

K.R. Francis

CUSC Campaign Update

After a successful campaign by the CUSC and a motion brought by Councillor Emlyn Dole, full council voted to have this proposal scrapped. The Executive Board agreed to consult with all users of their facilities.

With a reducing maintenance costs CCC’s executive board proposes to either transfer responsibility for the maintenance of their parks, playgrounds, sports pitches and greens, or find other solutions. This is the reason for asking
residents of the county for their ideas.

The sporting organisations that use CCC pitches and greens DO pay to hire these facilities! They are not free to use, they never have been, nor have we ever expected them to be. In addition to the monies received from the sporting organisations, Carmarthenshire County Council also receives council tax payments for these areas.
